A Dream Car...

Do You Have A Dream Car?
Here's a photo of mine... (well almost.)

Pink Studebaker Pickup Truck...

Well, I know it sounds kind of funny, but I just LOVE old cars and trucks from the 50's, with all that chrome, shining and gleaming..., like big, happy grinning faces...  It think of cars and trucks from that era as being "happy cars." Designers back then just went to town on making cars with all kinds of fins, and grills and all kinds of extra chromie bits...  Cars were built for comfort, their shapes curvy and sensual.  So different from most modern designs.

My  "Dream Car," would be a 1952 - 1956 Chevy or Studebaker pickup truck, all reconditioned, with a flat wooden bed for loading nifty things like... plants, and compost, great buy's from garage sales,,, you know... handy, functional but so 50's peachy keen!!!

The photo above was taken of an abandoned 1952 Studebaker pickup, out in the middle of the prairies of Eastern Oregon... driving down the dirt road, I made CG come to a screeching halt,,, I just had to get
out and take its photo,,, I love the character of these old trucks (I wonder if it could,  what stories it might tell?)

And hey folks... guess what???  It just so happened... to be PINK!!!  Happy Pink Saturday everyone...

A Scarf For Kathleen ~ Finding Beauty

A Scarf For Kathleen...

Walking around our neighborhood market the other day, list in hand, trolley filling with groceries, I was stopped by a friendly faced store clerk.  She announced how much she loved the scarf I was wearing ( a lovely rich turquoise woven shawl from Mexico.)  I smiled at her because over the last few years, this woman has come up to me on several occasions to tell me something sweet about how I look... I'm always a little surprised, because its a rare thing for "strangers" to say anything much, outside of talking about the weather whilst waiting in the check out line.. She went on to say "I always notice how nicely you dress and you wear such bright beautiful colors."  I explained that I make an effort to wear bright colors because they make me feel better, especially when the weather is gloomy and grey (which is a lot - because hey folks, this IS the Seattle area!!!)  Anyway, she told me she didn't have the "nerve to wear bright colors.." and her favorite color (much to her teenage daughter's horror) is brown.   Well, I gave her a hug, because I know what its like to have teenage girls who might not always give you a thumbs up  and high approval rating when it comes to "Mom's Fashion Sense"...

For the rest of the day, I reflected on the friendliness she'd shown me and how I felt truly touched by the kindness of her words and going out of her way to share these private observations.

Words are like that aren't they?  They can be like magic, and powerful enough (even when coming from a total stranger) to lift our spirits, to move us closer, towards trusting one another... and it costs..., well,,,, nothing.., just a moment of our time, and a willingness to share ~ from the heart ~ the place where honesty dwells.

Now, when I have a kind thought about someone, I will remember to share.., I will drop these petals of kindness...,  and you know what...?  I feel happy just thinking about it...

The next day at the market, I asked another clerk for the name of the "friendly clerk in the health food section,"....(she knew right away who I was talking about.)  it was ~ Kathleen...

So today, whilst browsing in a sweet little boutique in Portland, I came upon a beautiful scarf, that had Kathleen's name written on it - yes, it has brown in it, and pink and silvery cream...

When I get home, I will wrap it in bright colored tissue paper, and leave it at the market for Kathleen to find when she next comes to work... ~ I hope she likes it.

Its a small token for the huge gift of being touched by this angel.

Celebrating Flowers..

Perfumes Are The Feelings Of Flowers ~ Heinrich Heine

To be overcome by the fragrance of flowers is a
delectable form of defeat ~ Beverly Nichols

I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.. ~ Claude Monet

Bread feeds the body, indeed, but flowers feed also the soul ~ The Koran

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words.  They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning ~ (Lydia M. Child)

Angels amongst us..

Today I found a sweet angel, standing quietly in a corner of our local garden nursery.  I found her face so sweet, and her presence so serene.  I wanted to share her with you..., and this wonderful poem by Maya Angelou...

Touched By an Angel
by Maya Angelou

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
in the flush of love's light
we dare be brave
and suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

A Hungry New Family To Feed...

We have a new family in the neighborhood.. A family of black capped chickadees.
Sunny Jim (pictured above) seemed to like to sit on our deck railing and wait/wail for his mama to come and feed him.  Yesterday he sat and waited and waited in the drizzle, looking like a little wet pompom....

Sometimes he looked so dejected..

And at other times he looked downright peeved!!!

He looked the happiest when he was with all of his brothers and sisters, and he was the one getting fed! They are so much fun to watch, the babies are so comical the way they quiver all over when the parents are nearby and peep hysterically "feed me, feed me, feed me." The mother frantically flits around finding seeds, cracking them open as fast as she can then cramming them into ever needy baby beaks... They act so helpless when the parents are there, yet as soon as they (Mom and Dad) fly off, the babies start cramming their own beaks with food... CG took a short video for me of the little darlings so that I could share the joy with you all. I hope you enjoy..., just click on the YouTube link below... P.S if you listen carefully you can hear the very lovely song of our visiting Black Headed Grosbeak and the pecking of a nearby woodpecker in the trees...
